The PS Plus games have, honestly, been whack for a while now: December was trash, November was trash… January was ok, but then we went right back to Trash City with February. March had some neat stuff, but nothing mind-blowing. April and May were pretty forgettable as well. But we did get God of War in June and Crash Bandicoot in July. What does August have to offer?

Scroll down to see the games coming to PS Plus this month.

Since June, there’s a new subscription model for PlayStation, with several new tiers depending on how much money you pay. Sony is expanding PS Plus and adding two more subscription tiers: Extra and Premium. The current PS Plus will then be called PS Plus Essentials and will remain exactly as it is now.

Those who upgrade to PS Plus Extra will get 400 PS4 and PS5 games “for free”. At the Premium level, retro titles from PS1, PS2, and even PS3 are included. The full list of games for PS Plus Extra and Premium can be found here.

The classic PS Plus is now called “Essential” and will still get you 2-3 games per month. The games have now been officially revealed and we got some tasty games coming soon…

PS Plus Essential Games August 2022

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 (PS4, PS5)

  • User Score: 8.7
  • Critics Score: 89

This is not just a big nostalgia hit, it’s also one of the best remakes in a while as well as one of the very few skating games in a long time. For everyone who used to love these games or who enjoys fun sports games, this is a must-play. It’s a fantastic package with all the content from the first two Pro Skater games, as well as some quality improvements and new music. You have to check this out, no questions.

Unfortunately, developers Vicarious Visions were hired to make Diablo Immortal, and further remakes of the classic games have been put on ice. Getting these first games for free is a nice consolation, though.

Yakuza 7: Like a Dragon (PS4, PS5)

  • User Score: 8.3
  • Critics Score: 86

Another slam dunk for next month’s PS Plus lineup. The Yakuza series is absolutely fantastic and Yakuza 7 is no exception. If you enjoy wacky comedy and serious, brilliant storytelling, you need to play this, as Yakuza is excellent at both. The latest game in the Yakuza title also introduced a fantastic JRPG system and has a sequel in development. Even if you have never played a Yakuza game before, don’t let the high number scare you off: Like a Dragon is a reboot with a whole set of new characters and locations, so you can even start with this one.

Little Nightmares (PS4)

  • User Score: 8.1
  • Critics Score: 78

The most niche game in this lineup is still a certified banger. Every fan of horror games needs to check out Little Nightmaresif they haven’t already. It’s a very clever, spooky little game with an amazing visual style and very smart puzzles and a stunning atmosphere.

Those are your PS Plus games for August. Definitely check these games out, there is a high chance that you will have a good time with at least one of them.
