New Tekken Game Teased at EVO

An extremely brief teaser shown at the recent EVO 2022 fighting game tournament has fans believing that the eighth Tekken game will be revealed soon.

Bandai Namco sneakily teased the next entry in the tekken fighting game series at EVO 2022.

A tweet from the official tekken Twitter account featured an extremely short teaser that suggested a tekken 8 reveal may be coming soon. The clip showed the end scene of the first tekken game, released in 1994, which sees series mainstay Kazuya throwing his father’s body off a cliff. The video then zooms in on Kazuya’s polygonal face, before morphing into a new, high-fidelity version believed to be his new character model in the as-yet-untitled game. Text reading “Get Ready” briefly appears before the video ends. The original message urged fans to “watch until the end,” ensuring they didn’t miss the teaser.

The teaser came at the end of a longer video update about the tekken series shared at the EVO 2022 fighting game tournament. Developer Bandai Namco announced that Tekken 7 will see a number of balance updates in the coming weeks and that the finals of next year’s tekken World Tour will take place in Amsterdam on Feb. 4-5, 2023. Despite the other announcements, fans have seized upon the teaser as solid evidence that tekken 8 is on its way. Many expect a reveal at this year’s Game Awards on Dec. 9, 2022, as the event’s official Twitter account reposted the announcement with matching “GET READY” text.

This isn’t the first time the eighth tekken has appeared on fans’ radars, with its existence originally speculated following the major Nvidia GeForce Now leak in September 2021. Many games featured in the leak, such as the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition and the PC ports of god of war and Final Fantasy 7 Remake turned out to be true, so gamers had high hopes that the tekken 8 leak would, eventually, be proven correct.

EVO is the world’s premier fighting game tournament and attracts thousands of revelers each year. 2022’s contest was held in Las Vegas from Aug. 5-7 and saw a new Fatal Fury/Garou game announced by developer SNK, as well as various updates on current titles like MultiVersus and Dragon Ball Fighter Z. However, one franchise notably absent in the flurry of announcements was mortal kombatwhose co-creator Ed Boon dismissed rumors that a new installment in the gory franchise would be revealed at the event.

Tekken 7 is available now on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
