Game set to be PS5 exclusive

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is set to be exclusive to PS5, and will skip the PS4, according to developers Square Enix, as per Video Games Chronicle.

The first trailer for the game was shown off last month and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is set to be the second part of what will eventually be a trilogy.

The Final Fantasy 7 Remake came out in 2020 and initially released on PS4 but the new installment will not hit the last-generation console and is instead set to be a PS5 exclusive.

During an interview with Gamer, a Japanese video game publication, a producer by the name of Kitase said: It’s exclusive to PlayStation 5 because of the graphical quality, of course, as well as SSD access speed.

“Since the adventure unfolds in a vast world after the escape from Midgar, loading stress is an extreme bottleneck. We felt we needed the specifications of PlayStation 5 to overcome that and travel the world comfortably.”

The PS5 SSD massively increases loading speeds and also allows developers to build much more detailed game worlds.

Of course, the Xbox Series X/S also use SSD storage but there is no indication that the new Final Fantasy 7 game will make its way to Microsoft’s console.

The Final Fantasy 7 Remake has not yet gone to Xbox, either, due to the exclusivity deal in place between the developers and Sony.

Creative director Tetsuya Nomura has previously made the claim that FF7 Rebirth will be designed so that players can dive in without playing the previous iteration in the franchise.

He said: “In fact, new players might even enjoy starting their Final Fantasy VII journey with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

“Cloud and his friends begin on a new journey in this game, and I believe that the scenes that they witness after leaving Midgar will give players a fresh, new experience.”
