Lollipop Chainsaw Remake Revealed for 2023

Lollipop Chainsaw Remake

Following a tease last month, it’s been confirmed a full remake of PS3 game Lollipop Chainsaw is in development. It will have “a more realistic approach to graphics” and is being produced by a combination of the original team and new staff members. No platforms have been confirmed just yet, but it’s probably safe to say there’ll be at least a PS5 version.

A single screenshot from the remake has been released, which you can view above. Then, in an article over on IGN, it’s explained the licensed soundtrack from the original will not return in its full form. Besides a few licensed tracks, “the soundtrack will consist of new music”. This is almost certainly due to licensing issues.

The game’s original creative director, Suda51, doesn’t appear to be returning to help out with the project either. Instead, development is headed up by producer Yoshimi Yasuda under his new company Dragami Games. Yasuda was also the producer of the PS3 cult classic, and is joined by “a combination of development staff from the original version […] and new development staff from Dragami Games”.

In our Lollipop Chainsaw PS3 review from way back in June 2012, we awarded the game a 7/10 and concluded: “While it won’t win any best-of-genre awards, Grasshopper does a lot right with Lollipop Chainsaw. Once the core combat finds its rhythm and comes into its own, Juliet’s first outing is a solid take on the beat-em-up with a killer comic book aesthetic, memorable characters and genuinely funny writing.”
