Atlus Confirms PS4 Versions of Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 Portable

Atlus confirms that both Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 Portable will be receiving PS4 ports, making all three games available on modern systems.

In one of the most surprising announcements of this month, Microsoft announced at its Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase that the beloved personas JRPG games would be coming onto its Xbox consoles. This is the first time that personas 3-5 will be available onto the Xbox, but was a widely embraced move by a lot of fans. This was even bolstered by the news that the personas games will also be a part of the Xbox Game Pass, along with Windows Store PC versions.

Fans have been asking the company to port these games to modern systems, especially since Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden were locked to Sony’s handhelds the PlayStation Portable and Vita respectively. Fans had also hoped that personas 5 could also be brought to other systems instead of just the PS4. While the initial announcement only showed off Microsoft’s versions, Atlus assured fans that certain systems won’t be left out, as the following day confirmed PS5 and Steam versions of personas 3-5. Atlus also announced one more platform that the personas series will be playable on, the PS4.

While personas 5 and Persona 5 Royal are already on the PS4, Atlus tweeted an image that confirmed all the modern platforms that the personas series will be playable on. While all three games will be getting ports, Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 Portable are going to receive PS4 ports alongside the other versions that have been already announced.

Alongside these platforms, Atlus also confirms that Persona 5 Royal will receive a PS5 upgraded version the same date as the other versions, October 21. Meanwhile, Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 Portable don’t have targeted release windows for their ports, though Golden has been available on Steam since 2020. These ports are likely to be digital versions only as well.

While this confirms that all three games are coming to modern systems, one version has been noticeably absent. Many fans had wanted a Nintendo Switch version of these games, especially personas 5 for the longest time, but there doesn’t seem to be plans for one. It’s possible that Persona 5 Royal was more than the Switch could handle. While Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 Portable could possibly run fine on the Switch’s hardware, Atlus likely wanted to include all three games on the console and didn’t want to leave one out, although this is just speculation.

Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 Portable are in development for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Series X/S, and Game Pass.
