Next-Gen Soulslike Game Thymesia Gets Release Date

Next-gen only Soulslike game Thymesia finally confirms its release date alongside a new trailer that focuses on its combat.

Soulslike games are perhaps more popular now than they have ever been before, largely thanks to the incredible success of FromSoftware’s Elden Ring. Fans of the genre who have had their fill of Elden Ring and are hungry for new experiences should keep their eye on Thymesiawhich finally has a solid release date.

Thymesia was first revealed last year with a stylish trailer that immediately brought to mind games like Bloodborne and Dark Souls. It features a similar setup as other Soulslike games, with players exploring a bleak world full of dangerous hazards as they engage in intense, challenging combat. However, one key difference separating Thymesia from other Soulslike games is that it will be next-gen only, coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, but leaving the older consoles behind entirely.

On one hand, this may disappoint those on PS4 and Xbox One who want another Soulslike to play, but on the other hand, it will allow Thymesia to better take advantage of the new consoles’ hardware. PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X gamers who are excited to see if the games live up to the hype should mark August 9 on their calendars, as that’s when it will finally release to the masses.

Those who can’t wait for Thymesia‘s August 9 release date to roll around should note that they currently have the opportunity to play the game ahead of time. From now until May 9, PC gamers on Steam can check out a limited-time Thymesia demo. Tea Thymesia demo has controller support as well, so even those who plan on playing it on consoles come August 9 can feel free to check it out and still get a pretty good idea of how it will play on their platform of choice.

In the meantime, the Thymesia release date announcement was accompanied by a new trailer that focuses heavily on showcasing the game’s Soulslike combat. Anyone viewing the trailer should instantly understand why Thymesia has been so heavily compared to Bloodborneand it will be interesting to see if the game manages to live up to the high bar set by the FromSoftware classic.

The trailer ends with a look at what is presumably one of Thymesia‘s bosses, a massive bat-like creature with hollow eyes and red spikes sticking out of its back. Similar to other Soulslike games, it seems Thymesia is going to have an impressive roster of bosses for players to take down, though fans will have to wait until launch to see all the horrific beasts it’s bringing to the table.

Thymesia launches August 9 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
