Frontiers of Pandora Exclusive Content

A Sony presentation has hinted the company may have partnered with Ubisoft to release PlayStation-exclusive content for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.

A recent Sony corporate presentation has hinted that Ubisoft’s upcoming Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora may have exclusive playstation5 content after it was suggested that Sony may have marketing rights for the game. This wouldn’t be the first time Sony acquired rights to exclusive content in multi-platform games, as seen with exclusive characters like Spider-Man in Marvel’s Avengersor even entire modes like Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare‘s Spec Ops Survival mode.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora was announced by Ubisoft as a multi-platform release for PC and current-gen consoles and is due to launch sometime in 2022, likely to coincide with the long-awaited movie sequel Avatar: The Way Of Water. The first-person open-world title will see players taking on the role of a Na’vi, exploring an entirely new part of Pandora that hasn’t been seen in the films or in Ubisoft’s previous Avatar movie tie-in game.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora was one of the titles mentioned in a recent Sony corporate strategy video (via PushSquare). CEO Kenichiro Yoshida spoke about Sony’s relationships with third-party publishers, showing an image of a host of multi-platform games which included the upcoming Avatar game release, alongside other anticipated titles like Hogwarts Legacy and Final Fantasy XVI, which has already been confirmed as a PlayStation timed exclusive. While unconfirmed, Yoshida’s presentation hints that a Sony marketing deal for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora isn’t outside of the realm of possibility, and it seems likely that Sony has signed a deal with Ubisoft which could result in exclusive content for the PS5 version of the game.

A deal between Sony and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora would not be an unlikely scenario given how Sony and Ubisoft have only recently announced that they would be including Ubisoft’s subscription service, Ubisoft+, with the new PlayStation Plus, bringing titles such as Assassin’s Creed Valhalla to the service. As for what any potential PlayStation exclusive content could look like for Avatarit has already been confirmed the new Avatar game will be skipping last-generation consoles, meaning if a deal has been struck, the content would be locked to PS5.

Although nothing has been officially announced by Sony regarding any exclusive deals for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, it is a move that would fit in with Sony’s historical marketing for third-party games. If true, it could mean that the game may be a timed PS5 exclusive, or perhaps purchasers will receive in-game content not available elsewhere. Of course, the mention could be in reference to the Ubisoft+ deal, which might mean Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora may join the new PlayStation Plus upon the title’s launch. It’s worth noting that PlayStation Plus won’t get day one releases for its first-party games, but it’s something Ubisoft has done with their new releases on the PC version of Ubisoft+.
