After months of question marks over the arrival of its Dead Space remaster, EA have finally announced that it will soon be lurching out of the dark, with an anticipated release date of January 27th, 2023. horror classic is set to launch for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, sadly leaving PS4 and Xbox One gamers out of the picture.

The game has been rebuilt from the ground up, moving across to EA’s powerful Frostbite engine so that it can wring every pound of flesh out of the game’s terrifying events.

The original Dead Space launched in 2008, appearing on the Xbox 360, PC and PS3. Developers EA Redwood Shores managed to make a debut title that proved horror works particularly well in space, with players taking control of engineer Isaac Clark as he attempt to escape from a mining ship that’s become infested with Necromorphs, a terrifying extraterrestrial threat that kills everything in its path. The game centers on ideas of psychosis and hallucinations, and frankly remains one of the scariest games I’ve ever played.

We reviewed the original game back before we put scores on games – can you imagine such a thing? – and at the time we said “Dead Space is so good at this that you’ll forget you’re playing a video game. I know, it’s a cliche, but it’s totally deserved here: the way the HUD is presented, as a floating hologram in from of you, the way that shops and upgrade stations are totally integrated into the environment, the way that cut-scenes always play out directly in front of you without forcing you to watch or even remove control from the player: it’s all brilliantly done and absolutely crucial in keeping you locked into the game.” It thinks that means that they liked it.

Stay tuned for more news on Dead Space as we have it.
