Sony continues to strengthen their PC plans

The video games industry is in an interesting place right now, with console manufacturers shifting their focus from creating walled garden experiences to opening up their games to more and more players. Sony has been doing so by bringing their games to PC – and are now seemingly doubling down on the market.

As discovered by Reddit user LaddertoheavenSony recently published a job listing for a Senior Director, PC Planning and Strategy at PlayStation Globalthe responsibility of which includes:

  • Leading PC growth and commercial strategy
  • Growing PC MAU (monthly active users) for PC content
  • Developing and implementing global PC store strategy and process
  • Building and growing global commercial PC partner opportunities
  • GSBO PC growth, strategy, and sales execution though global PC store fronts (Epic, Steam)

Sony has already put a great deal of effort and money into growing their PC gaming business, purchasing porting specialists Nixxes Software as well as drip feeding some of their biggest franchises onto the PC platform. As such, it is exciting to see Sony not only continue with this strategy, but seemingly doubling down on it.

It will be interesting to see what the video games market looks like 5 years from now – especially as moves such as this point to an ongoing shift in the industry.
