Development on Marvel’s Wolverine is progressing steadily as the game gears up for motion-capture performance.

According to an image posted to Twitter by Lead Animator Mike Yosh, Wolverine will soon be bringing its cast of actors into record and capture their movements. The photo depicts a pristine and organized mo-cap studio, with Yosh writing, “So peaceful and quiet, ….it will not be like this for long.” While this brief update doesn’t narrow down a release window, it suggests that Wolverine is entering a mew phase of production. The game’s cast is still unknown at the time of writing.

Announced in late 2021, next to nothing is known about Marvel’s Wolverine. The brief teaser trailer simply depicts Logan in a rustic bar in what appears to be the aftermath of a major brawl. While details regarding the project’s story and mechanics were sparse, fans were quick to pick up several major Easter eggs from the footage. Arguably the most notable of these was a license plate placed behind the bar which reads “HLK 181,” a nod to the character’s first comic book appearance in The Incredible Hulk #181.

Another reference featured in the trailer is the name of the bar at which Logan is drinking. A chalkboard visible to the left of the titular character bears the title “The Princess Bar,” which is an establishment in Madripoor, a fictional country that has often played host to Wolverine. While some fans are convinced that the game will be set in the fictional region, neither PlayStation nor Insomniac Games have confirmed these details.

Beyond the already discovered Easter eggs, Marvel Games’ creative vice president Bill Rosemann teased fans that they should dig even deeper into the video. “We will eventually reveal when Wolverine is aimed to launch. For more, go back and study those trailers – they are packed with details and Easter eggs,” said Rosemann. While information on Wolverine‘s plot is scarce, creative director Brian Horton confirmed that fans can expect a full-size game that will feature a mature tone.

Marvel’s Wolverine isn’t the only superhero project Insomniac Games is working on. A sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man is currently in development for PlayStation 5 and is aiming to launch in 2023. Little is known about the game but the teaser trailer confirmed that both Kraven the Hunter and Venom are set to feature as villains.

Marvel’s Wolverine does not yet have a release date.
